Who am I?

My name is Rachel Lyu. I am a graphic designer and illustrator originally from Shanghai, China, now based in Brooklyn, New York, where I currently attend Pratt Institute’s Communication Design program.

What do I do?

I tell stories through UX/UI, publication, photography, and illustration. I lean towards a people-first culture, and that represents itself within my work. I approach my work through the focus of cultural narratives and environmental awareness.

What do I do outside of creating?

I can be found enjoying a movie, going out to eat, exploring new parts of the city, networking, and building things.

Some recent accomplishments of mine from this past year are showcasing my work at AtypI in Copenhagen, volunteering at Typographics, contributing to an industry-sponsored studio with General Motors, and developing Home Elsewhere, my visual research project on Chinatown through photography, publication design, and spatial observation. I also continued producing a series of publications and animated pieces that expand my practice across mediums.
